Investigation of heavy metal removal from Shahid Tondgooyan Petrochemical Company wastewater using zeolite

There are various methods for removing or reducing heavy metals, each of which has its advantages and disadvantages. This study aims to investigate the efficiency of natural zeolite clinoptilolite for removing cobalt ions from synthetic wastewater samples and wastewater under operational conditions. As a result, the removal of cobalt ions from aqueous solutions using clinoptilolite with a concentration of 30 mg/L of cobalt and an adsorbent amount of 0.90 g at the pH of the sample was investigated. For this purpose, the effect of laboratory parameters such as adsorbent mass, reaction time, temperature, and pH was investigated. Also, the optimal conditions were investigated to study the effect of clinoptilolite on removing cobalt ions under operational conditions and compared with poly-ammonium chloride. Finally, different isotherms and kinetic models were used based on experimental data, and it was found that the adsorption behavior of cobalt ions by clinoptilolite is in good agreement with the Freundlich adsorption isotherm and pseudo-second-order kinetic model. A comparison of the results shows that the clinoptilolite adsorbent has a more favorable adsorption rate than polyammonium chloride under similar conditions.
